How a digital QR menu works for restaurants
Discover step by step how a digital QR menu works: from the customer scanning to viewing the menu on their phone. No apps, no complications.
What happens when a customer scans the QR?
It all starts at the table. The customer sees the QR code, opens their phone camera, points it at the code, and in less than two seconds the restaurant menu is on their screen. No apps, no passwords, no waiting.
Behind the scenes the process is equally simple: the QR contains a secure URL pointing to your menu's public page. Scanning it, the phone automatically opens that page in the browser.
The three components of a digital menu
1. The QR code
It's the entry point. It can be static (the URL never changes) or dynamic (you can change the destination without reprinting the QR). You print it once and place it on tables, at the door, or at the counter.
2. The public menu page
This is what the customer sees: your dishes, photos, prices, descriptions, and allergens. It adapts to any screen size and loads in under a second.
3. Your management panel
From here you control everything: add dishes, change prices, upload photos, toggle categories, and view statistics. Changes appear instantly on the customer's menu.
What does the customer need to view it?
Just a smartphone with a camera. No need to:
- Download any application
- Create any account
- Provide any personal data
- Have a QR reader installed (the phone camera already does it)
How do you update the menu?
With dynamic QR codes (Pro and Business plans) the process is instant:
- Log into the QRMenu Pro panel from your phone or computer
- Find the dish or price to modify
- Make the change and save
- At that exact moment, any customer who scans the QR sees the updated menu
Frequently asked questions
Does the customer need to install an app to view the QR menu?
No. The menu opens directly in the phone browser when scanning the QR with the camera. No downloads or installations required.
How fast does the digital menu load?
Under one second under normal network conditions. The page is optimised for fast loading even on slow mobile connections.
Can I have the menu in multiple languages?
Yes. With the Pro and Business plans, the menu is automatically translated into 6 languages: Spanish, Italian, English, French, German, and Chinese.
Does the menu QR expire?
With QRMenu Pro's dynamic QR codes, the QR never expires. You can change the menu content without the printed code ever stopping working.
